AVERAGE EVERYDAY SANE PSYCHO SUPERGODDESS

LOVE IN THE TIME OF MYOMA

I've always felt uncomfortable inside hospitals. And we're talking more than the average dose of being a drama queen when describing my emotional state here.

Aside from the blinding white surroundings and the smell of antiseptics all over that in themselves are enough to make me dizzy, I associate the place with sickness, death, loss, grieving, regrets, ends of relationships, unfortunate fates, and all those sad things. And so you can imagine how lost and sad I felt during my 3 days-2 nights stay there watching over my mom as the specialists took her under their care for a myoma operation. I knew that myoma in itself is not that big a deal as long as it is properly removed before causing problems in the reproductive system. The doctors explained what is involved in the operation, assured our family that it is simple and safe, and the appropriate preparation was undertaken. That the doctors were famous, credible specialists who vowed to take good care of her was also a plus. Really, logically speaking, there was not much to worry about. But still, I couldn't help but be scared for my mommy because an operation is still an operation. It's not a pretty thing. Also, knowing that her blood sugar level is high (FYI: She has diabetes, of the advanced type!) which might pose some problems bothered me. Likewise, that she is squeamish at the mere sight of blood increased my fears for her. In my opinion, fighting spirit plays a big part in a sick person's recovery so I just did my best to encourage her to stay strong. But I was so far from calm. Like I was the one supposed to go under the knife.

As I stayed in the room while they cut her and took the two fist-sized tumors in her uterus that were causing her pain, I prayed to all the angels and saints to keep her safe and make her healthy. It dawned on me that I might lose her and it made me realize just how much I love her. Of course you know you love your family and you do your best to express that. But there's nothing like situations that highlight the possibility of loss to open one's eyes to a loved one's importance. The thought of losing my mom was just unbearable. If she was taken away, it'd be like an arm was cut off me. I mean, this is the woman who gave birth to me, raised me well, been there through my ups and downs (even the in-betweens), looked after my every need, gave me love and support, and just simply been a great, caring mother. She has her faults, yes, but then so do I. The important thing is we get past our little spats and emphasize the good qualities over the bad and just try to make it work on a daily basis. As cheesy as it may sound, I have to say that I love my mom deeply.

With that said, I can't describe to you the feeling of relief and gratitude that washed over me when they brought her back to the room and told us the operation was successful. She's just resting a lot now in order for her body to recover from the stress it has been through. We'll just be keeping a close watch on her sugar level so as to manage the diabetes and avoid or control the complications it brings. I really hope my mom becomes well and strong again. To the kind souls out there, please join our family in constantly praying for her.

I've learned so much from this entire experience. I'm telling you, always remember to show the people you love how you feel about them. Do that each chance you get. I sure will take all the opportunities I get to do just that to my mom. Life is a great thing. Health is true wealth. Relationships are priceless. Never forget or overlook those important things. Don't wait for a trip to the hospital to learn that.

GOT A SECOND?

1 second.
2 seconds.
3 seconds.

3-2-1. Let this post begin.

Seconds are but grains of sand in the beach of time. They're small. They're instant. And because of that, they sometimes seem irrelevant.

Do this observation exercise with me, will you?

Pause. Count with me. One. Two. Three.

Did you catch that? Seconds ticking away. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Seconds gone. In a snap. Snap. Those are seconds that will never return. Ever. Ooops, there's one again. And another. And another. And as you continue to read, I'm stealing more and more seconds from you. You are losing your seconds! Valuable ones! I'm eating up your time. You begin to think, "Should I stop now?" Beep. Beep. WARNING: That's an additional second lost while you thought my question over.

"Okay," you start asking, "what is the point of this?"

I counter, "Does this have to have a point? Do seconds have a point?" Maybe they do. Maybe they don't. Who can say for certain? But isn't it just valuable and deep and beautiful? I love feeling things that are beyond me. Seconds, minutes, hours--time in its very essence is beyond me. Beyond all of us. We are perenially caught inside time and chasing time and running out of time and all that since time immemorial and it'll last until the end of time.

But time doesn't have an end. So when are we supposed to end?

Hmmm... I don't think I can answer that. But it's time to end. Have just released some of the weirdness inside me, even if just for a few seconds. And I'm hoping this served as a simulation of the nothing-ness but quite ironically, the something-ness of a second that we've all never quite got and been able to put into words but at the same time all understand.

From now on, why don't you observe the split-seconds and seconds around you? Like that moment when you're stuck in an elevator. Strangers in one place, minds and hearts all elsewhere. A husband-father can't wait to get home to his wife and child. A poor girl has just had her heart broken. Someone is in need of money. A yuppie just got promoted. Etcetera etcetera... And it's all within but beyond seconds.

I've just changed my mind... I won't give this any ending. Will just let the blabber be as it is. Because seconds are continuing. I've no right to give it an end. Humans are merely to celebrate in the moments. Whatchathink? Gimme a second and explore this with me.

Under this beautiful night sky one beautiful Friday night, the beautiful Shungak girls had a beautiful time seeing each other once again, updating on kwento, eating, strolling, and simply reliving their carefree college bonding days.

Can anything be more beautiful?

Time for some beautiful photos.

NEWSFLASH (WITHOUT BRAKES!!!)

I plead guilty as charged.

Yes, yes, yes I know... I've practically dropped off the face of Bloglandia. And I have no excuse. Except for the lack of courage to just say things. Without creativity. Without hype. Without reason. Guess I've been too used to preparing and organizing and packaging and all the stuff that are great but don't really matter. So it's always the same thing: half an entry saved as draft (sometimes a third, other times just an opening but whatever way, it's a beginning left at that) then another great idea comes along but the timing slips by. Voila! Blog inactivity. The side effect: too many words and feelings crowding this girl's already wayyyyyyy interrupted brain.

So here goes, time to as Mariah croons, "shake it off." Let's try some spontaneity.

BUMP, BUMP, BUMP

* I had a "little accident" just this afternoon. After finally proving to myself, my family, and my officemates that I can already drive (still not great of course but competent at least), I hit a truck which left my car's left rear side look like it's been used in an action flick stunt. No exaggerations! I'll post some pics when I get the chance. Talk about real stupid! Gosh!

I guess I don't really have much to worry about since it's a company car that's covered by insurance and the other party didn't complain or anything and at least no one got hurt, but it truly left me unsettled. I guess I'm just really disturbed by how I let something like that happen. There's something very discomforting about the randomness of it all. Made me feel small. Made me feel at the mercy of fate. Makes me blame myself for not doing this or doing that... all those little extras. I feel so out of control.

CAN THIS BE LOVE?

* On the lighter side (that's the only transition you're gonna get, I already warned you... this is newsflash without brakes!), I think I may be falling in love. Emphasis on may be. But I dunno. Really not sure just yet. But it's kinda messy and to some point pointless and hopeless. Let's see what happens. Can't really explain. Dunno how to put it. Will just keep you updated. Promise.

DRAMA QUEEN WORKING GIRL

* In terms of work, I got thrown into this big, exciting, frustrating, and promising thing. Some days I just love it and feel so lucky and feel I could really make a difference. Other days I think it's all bullsh*t. But at least my days never pass without drama. You know me, your little drama queen, always looking for excitement, for a challenge, for something meaningful. If all turns out as I planned and am working hard for, this just may be the magic I am looking for.

THE DEATH OF PRINCE

* My dog died.

I've always thought that line was cheesy. Up until I've had to say it and realized that it made me feel seriously bad, that is.

As cheesy as it may sound, I really loved Prince Eric. He taught me to be open and to love. Yuck! Parang boyfriend... But seriously, kasi I've never had a dog before due to my brothers and sister's asthma that prevented us from owning any pets. So when it was finally ok for us to have a doggie, I really showered my affections on the pup. And though I was afraid at first, coming near him slowly and having to have him bound by a leash at first, I gradually just let go. And it was at that that I truly enjoyed having a "bestfriend." He'd come to me as soon as I get home. I'd feed him and stroke the back of his ears. He'd follow me wherever I go. I really loved that dog. So please no one underestimate the emotions that come with a "My dog just died" line ever again.

In loving memory of my real life prince, Prince Eric

TIME FOR CHANGE, TIME TO SPEAK, TIME TO ACT!

* From sad to sadder... I feel really angry about the political situation right now. Seeing Gloria Macapagal Arroyo remain in power, doing one horrible thing after another, all the while feeling smug 'coz again she got away with it, is enough to make me want to pull all of my hair out.

I say bullsh*t to everyone who claims we should bear with her since most of our politicians are liars and thieves anyway. Not just because something is rampant doesn't mean that it is right, that it should be allowed. If for anything, this should open our eyes to the scam that is shaming our country.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not calling for a violent means to overthrow the government. But I can't just sit here and take all of these in. I want to speak. I want to act. Like I feel a big part of the silent majority are starting to feeling but don't know how exactly to go about.

It's definitely time for change. Should Mother Philippines call out, I'd be here, more than willing, to join the battle for democracy and honesty and the good of all which this stubborn government doesn't seem to have a care about.

And I invite everyone else, especially my sector--the youth, to join in.
