1 second.
2 seconds.
3 seconds.
3-2-1. Let this post begin.
Seconds are but grains of sand in the beach of time. They're small. They're instant. And because of that, they sometimes seem irrelevant.
Do this observation exercise with me, will you?
Pause. Count with me. One. Two. Three.
Did you catch that? Seconds ticking away. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Seconds gone. In a snap. Snap. Those are seconds that will never return. Ever. Ooops, there's one again. And another. And another. And as you continue to read, I'm stealing more and more seconds from you. You are losing your seconds! Valuable ones! I'm eating up your time. You begin to think, "Should I stop now?" Beep. Beep. WARNING: That's an additional second lost while you thought my question over.
"Okay," you start asking, "what is the point of this?"
I counter, "Does this have to have a point? Do seconds have a point?" Maybe they do. Maybe they don't. Who can say for certain? But isn't it just valuable and deep and beautiful? I love feeling things that are beyond me. Seconds, minutes, hours--time in its very essence is beyond me. Beyond all of us. We are perenially caught inside time and chasing time and running out of time and all that since time immemorial and it'll last until the end of time.
But time doesn't have an end. So when are we supposed to end?
Hmmm... I don't think I can answer that. But it's time to end. Have just released some of the weirdness inside me, even if just for a few seconds. And I'm hoping this served as a simulation of the nothing-ness but quite ironically, the something-ness of a second that we've all never quite got and been able to put into words but at the same time all understand.
From now on, why don't you observe the split-seconds and seconds around you? Like that moment when you're stuck in an elevator. Strangers in one place, minds and hearts all elsewhere. A husband-father can't wait to get home to his wife and child. A poor girl has just had her heart broken. Someone is in need of money. A yuppie just got promoted. Etcetera etcetera... And it's all within but beyond seconds.
I've just changed my mind... I won't give this any ending. Will just let the blabber be as it is. Because seconds are continuing. I've no right to give it an end. Humans are merely to celebrate in the moments. Whatchathink? Gimme a second and explore this with me.
