KAPAMILYA VS. KAPUSO / KAPUSO VS. KAPAMILYA

My goodness!

It's the height of network war.

As I turn the TV on, I see a juicy, loaded commercial bearing the the statement of the network. And mind you, it is complete with cue words (highlighted in bold font), cuts and documents to lend an official tone, dramatic statements, the station logo - the works!!! Then when I flick the remote, there goes the response of the other one. They keep getting back at each other that you'd think the court case is right in your own living room (what a literal sala, hehehe... )

Let me just say that I'm well aware that the matter of ratings (and in relation to that media honesty, public trust, and survey credibility) is a truly important issue. It's certainly worth discussing and resolving. And so ABS-CBN and GMA's stance of defending their integrity is perfectly understandable.

But it's getting too much.

I think I'm not alone in feeling that the methods the competitors are employing to get through this brouhaha are unimpressive. If for anything, they make me want to turn the television off. Now how's that for their precious ratings?

A Nice Discovery...

As a kid is to a toy store, so am I in a bookstore.

And so stepping inside "Fully Booked" at Bonifacio High Street felt like being in a giant, wonderful playground!!!

I really can't believe that last Thursday was the first time I bothered to take a look at the place. Boy, was I missing out on a lot!

The "Fully Booked" flagship store is a five-storey reading mecca. As if a parallelism to the genre's place in media, anime, manga and comics are underground. The ground level features popular fiction, general non-fiction, and magazines both foreign and local. Business, economics, history, philosophy, leisure, music, culinary arts and other special interest titles are housed in the third to the fifth floors.

In keeping with bookstores' sense of being comfortable and familiar, there is a Starbucks inside. The place spells "good hang out" -- whether for some private reading time or an intimate conversation with a friend over coffee (or in my case, tea).

Going with the trend of literature and music coming together conveniently, "Fully Booked" likewise has a record bar with small booths to allow buyers a quick listen to featured albums.

And there's an area perfectly suited for book launches and small discussions.

In my opinion being an ardent fan of hobby stores, Music One within Powerbooks still has a more diverse collection of CDs and DVDs, National Bookstore of course reigns where textbooks and school supplies are concerned, and readers still have a better chance at finding good bargains in quaint book shops... but "Fully Booked" at BHS definitely has strong appeal for the modern reading public with diverse interests.

Do check it out. If you're into reading, you won't be disappointed. There's something in "Fully Booked" for you.

2008 "BETTER ME" GUIDELINES

"Resolution" is not a word I particularly like. Kinda denotes something has to be solved in a straightforward, firm manner... which is not really bad... but as if things really are all black and white instead of gray!

In my opinion, there are things to correct and improve in everybody but there's always good stuff. I don't think we ought to be "new" people since who we are is a result of our entire journey BUT changes should be made as part of growth.

So as an alternative, here's my 2008 "BETTER ME" GUIDELINES (things I want to live by for self-improvement):

* SAVE UP!

My perpetual struggle. Hehehe...

While I never regret money spent on traveling and good food and while I do think I did better in 2007 as compared to 2006, I regret that the figure in my savings account isn't well-proportioned to my salary. Definitely need to get better at this financial management thing. Tsk, tsk...

* GOODBYE COKE AND COKE LIGHT!

This one's difficult 'coz I loooovvvvveee Coke and Coke Light!

BUT it's not healthy and it's starting to become an addiction so I wanna snap out of it. A little something to give up...

Alternatives: water (go water therapy!), iced tea and hot tea, juice

* BECOME LIGHTER (PHYSICALLY)!

Well I'm happy with my body right now but I'd be happier if I lose 5-10 lbs more.

* BECOME LIGHTER (EMOTIONALLY)!

Left all baggage behind and going with positivity!

* BE MORE: WRITE MORE, READ MORE, WATCH MORE (good movies, plays, TV shows), TALK TO PEOPLE MORE, DANCE MORE, DRESS UP MORE, TRAVEL MORE, HELP MORE

Basically do more of the things I enjoy.

------------------------------------

So far I'm surprisingly doing well on the Coke thing. Thanks to the discovery of the yumminess of C2! Hehe... But still need to hold tighter to my money as couldn't help going out and thus spending every night of January's first week. But 'twas fun anyway and (as an obvious pathetic attempt at justification) I guess it's part of the "Be More" resolution. Hehe...
