THE UNILEVER INTERVIEW

So how was my first interview for the UNILEVER Business Week? If you set aside the fact that I arrived late despite allotting a generous two hours and a half for travel because of stupid traffic and if you set aside the fact that I almost got lost, you could say that it went ok.

Ok? Well, yeah. They asked mostly personal questions anyway. They looked for skills and experience. So I gave them that. I recounted the numerous situations I found myself in during my work for several orgs and showed how I succeeded. I think I did pretty well. But still, I'm not expecting anything. The selection process is thorough, many stages and so many others to beat. I'm just happy to have been given the chance. It's flattering to know that I'm included in the better half.

This next part is not really about the interview anymore but it is kinda related. I realized some things during the trip to the office.

What do you know? Chivalry is not dead after all. Three out of the four times I entered a sardines-like packed rail train, guys offered me their seats. And there were so many helpful and kind Filipinos. I encountered lots of nice co-passengers, drivers, security guards, etc. I wouldn't have survived if I didn't follow logic for a sense of direction and if people didn't help me get to where I had to go.

I guess the tiring and ultra-perspiring day in the dirty and poor streets of Manila via commuting to the interview wasn't such a waste after all. It's good to see beautiful spirits amidst ugly surroundings. It gives one some more faith.

Trackback: The Cat wrote something about chivalry. Read it here.
